Primo

Ch Corydon Il Supremo

Born 16/2/1997

Sire:- Ch Sogno Narciso with Pelido – Dam:- Ch Corydon La Stupenda

He was a very handsome dog. He was very well made and was a very good mover. He won a Group (one of only about 8 male Rough collies ever to achieve rhis honour) He also won 3 Challenge Certidicates, 3 Reserve CCs and he won 4 Best in Show awards. He had a very limited stud career because he was a different type to what the breeders in those days wanted. But he sired 2 Champions including a Crufts winner and 3 overseas Champions.

he was much favoured by the all-rounder judges. Many of the breeders did not like him as he was so different from their own stock. He did though have some very good wins which was even more remarkeable because he was being shown at the same time as Ch Phreelancer Phrosty Moom over Corydon the breed record holder. In fact Primo (as we called him) won more Best in Shows than Frosty and he won a Group 1 award that Frosty never did. His biggest win was probably his Best in Show award at the Hitchen Open Show. This was a 2 day show with a huge entry.

One of his Best in Show awards stands in my memory because of what happened. This was the Smooth collie Championship Show. We were told that the Rough collies would not be in the ring before a certain time. That morning I had bathed primo and had completely stripped his coat. So we were a little late arriving and when we got there the judge had started judging the Rough Collies. He was just ending the Post Graduate Class so I very quickly gave Primo a brush before we went into the ring for the Open Dog class. Andrew Brace an allrounder judge was officiating and he was quick. Anyway Primo won the class and then won the challenge for Best Dog. It was not too long before he was challenging the best bitch for Best of Breed. He won that so had to challenge the best of Breed Smooth Collie that happened to be the top winning bitch at that time. But Primo beat her for the Best in Show award. I seem to remember that we were on our way home just and hour and a half after we had arrived. The quickest Best in Show I have ever had.
