2000’s

The decade that saw us reach the TOP.
4 times Best of Breed at CRUFTS Dog Show, and 5 Dog CCs at this show. This meant that in the first 10 years of the new millennium our dogs won half the dog Challenge Certificates available at Crufts Dog Show. And I judged the breed in 2003.
The dogs won 40 Challenge Certificates and 17 Reserve Challenge Certificates during the 10 years. The CCs were won by 7 different Rough Collies. These were CH. PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON, CH CORYDON IL SUPREMO, CH CORYDON RIO GRANDE, CH CORYDON MADCHEM, CH CORYDON BLACKCAT, CH. DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTING OVER CORYDON and CORYDON CATCH A PIXIE. And we made up 4 new Champions. Il Supremo, Rio Grande, Madchem and Dark Moon.
CH. PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON became the new Breed Record holder with 32 Challenge Certificates. He won Best of Breed at Crufts on 3 successive occasions from 2000 to 2002. A breed record. He won the Dog CC at Crufts in 2004.
CH CORYDON IL SUPREMO became a Champion in 2000 and won the Pastoral Group at Driffield in 2002. He also had a Best in Show win in 2000.
CH CORYDON BLACKCAT won his 5th CC and was Best in Show at Midland Collie Club in 2001 when he was a veteran.
CH CORYDON MADCHEM won 3 CCs and became a Champion in just 3 months in 2005.
CH CORYDON RIO GRANDE won 3 CCs and became a Champion in 2006.

2000 What a year. At long last we cracked it and won a CC and then Best of Breed at Crufts with Frosty (CH PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOONOVER CORYDON) It had taken us more than 40 years to achieve this.
The year started well with Corydon Il Supremo going Best in Show at the East Anglian Collie Association Open Show in February. He also won the Limit Dog Class at Crufts, before going to the National where he won the Dog CC and Best of Breed under Derek Smith. So becoming CH. CORYDON IL SUPREMO. Later in the year he won Best of Breed at the Smooth Collie Ch. Show under Charlotte Hoier from Denmark.

2001 The year started with a really lovely win when CH CORYDON BLACKCAT won the Veteran Dog class under Mrs A Arch and then went on to win the Dog CC and then Best in Show under Mrs E Westwood at the Midland Collie Club’s Ch Show on the 10th February. He was almost 8years old on the day. This was his last show as I thought that he should go out at the TOP.
Then we had Foot and Mouth in the Country and that stopped all shows for 3 months. Crufts Dog Show was put back from March to May, but it did not stop CH PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON from winning the Dog CC under Hazel Hunt and Best of Breed under both judges agreement, and then going on to be shortlisted in the Group. During the year he won 7 Challenge Certificates, 6 with Best of Breed. These were at SKC under Mr McManus, Crufts, Southern Counties under Mr S Wilburg,
Three Counties under Mrs J Whant, Richmond under Mr D Allsop, Darlington under Mr J Bispham and Midland Counties under Miss S Concar.
CH CORYDON IL SUPREMO thought that he should get his name in print, so he went to Driffield Championship Show, won Best of Breed under Mr R F Parkes, and then won the Group under Mrs J Collis. He was the first male Rough Collie to win a Group since CH CORYDON HANDSOME HERO won the Group at Eastern Counties in 1978.
Finally, at the end of the year CORYDON PRIMA DONNA won the Reserve Bitch CC under Mrs A Arch at London & Provincial Collie Club.
Earlier in the year we introduced CORYDON SUPER CHIEF, he had some very good wins in the Puppy Classes, but he was to have his show career cut short by getting testicular cancer. A great pity as he was a rather handsome dog who would have gone far.
Due to the foot & Mouth problem we only went to about half the shows we would normally have gone to, but our dogs ended the year with 16 First Prizes.

2003 This was again a very quiet year.No Crufts for us this year as I was judging the bitches at this show.
Frosty went to East Anglian Collie Association Ch. Show and won another Best in Show. This was under Miss E Eriksson from Sweden. He also won Reserve CC at Windsor under Mr A Brace.
Primo went out a few times and won the Reserve CC at Border Union under Anne Hutchinson.
Corydon Madchen won Reserve Best in Show at the Smooth Collie Club Open Show under Mrs I Bratley.

2004 Yes, Frosty did it again, Dog Challenge Certificate at Crufts under Mr R Vourinen from Finland. This was his 30th Challenge Certificate. He won another at Bath under Shirley Elliston.
It was a quiet year for Top Prizes as we were showing several young puppies. These included Corydon Super Sonic who was best puppy in Breed at Midland Counties Ch. Show and his sister Corydon Fancy Me who was Best Puppy in Show at Collie Association Ch Show and at the Smooth Collie Club Ch. Show. She went on to win her Junior Warrant which qualified her for the Stud Book and entry to Crufts Dog Show for life. More importantly we started showing a young dog who was to sire a famous Champion in Ch Demelewis Dark Moon Driftin over Corydon. This was Aqualita Class Act With Corydon. Bred by Edith Prior and sired by Ch Corydon Blackcat

2005 A very good year with a New Champion and 5 CCs won by 3 different Corydons.
The new champion is CH. CORYDON MADCHEN who won her Challenge Certificates at National Working and Pastoral Breeds under Mrs B Banbury, at Leeds under Birgitt Hayward and at Midland Counties under John Walsh from Ireland. She also won a Reserve CC at East Anglian Collie Association under Mrs Penwarne.
CH PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON won his 32nd and last CC at Yorkshire Collie Club under Geoff Duffield. He was 9 years and 6 monthsold at the time. It is likely to be a long time before this record is broken. He also won 2 Reserve CCs the first at National Working and Pastoral Breeds, and second at Leeds.
Our third CC winner of the year was AQUALITA CLASS ACT AT CORYDON who won at The Collie Association under Hazel Hunt. Interestingly this was the first CC we had won at this Club after over 50 years of showing there. He also won a Reserve CC at Midland Counties. So during the year we won the CC and Reserve CC at 3 different shows. Quite a record. We also started showing a nice bitch called Corydon Fancy Me. She won her Junior Warrant but did not get any big awards. She had two litters, both sired by Ch Demelewis Dark Moon Drifting Over Corydon. A total of eight puppies five of which became Champions. These included three International Champions. A wonderful record for any bitch.

2006 was really Corydon Rio Grande’s year. He started the year by being Best Puppy and Best of Breed at Doncaster Open Show in Early January, where he was also Group 4 and Puppy Group 3. His next show was Northumberland & Durham Collie Open Show where he won 3 first prizes and Best Dog and Best Puppy in Show. Next up was Manchester where he was Reserve Best Dog and Best Puppy. In March he went to West Torrington where he was Best of Breed and Group 2. In April he went to the Smooth Collie Club Open Show where he won Best in Show. Later in the month he went to Yorkshire & North Midland Working & Pastoral Breeds Open Show where he was Best of Breed and Group 2. He won his class at the Lancashire & Cheshire Collie Championship Show then into May he went to Birmingham National Ch Show where he won the Dog CC. Two weeks later it was Bath Ch Show where he again won the Dog CC. At
this show he also won the Pastoral Junior Stakes Class and was runner up for the top award. He then waited to grow a new coat and went to LKA Ch Show in December where he won his third and qualifying CC and was Best of Breed So he became CH CORYDON RIO GRANDE . At the Bath Show he also won enough Junior warrant points to win that award as well.
However, his kennel mate Demelewis Dark Moon Driftin Over Corydon was not to be completely overshadowed with the following wins to his credit. It started at the East Anglian Collie Association Open Show where he was Best Puppy in Show and Best Dog in Show. Rio Grande’s sister Corydon Rio Rita was Best in Show at this event. Not a bad day for us. His next show was Midland Collie Club Ch Show where he won 2 first prizes. Then at the British Collie Club Ch Show he won another 2 first prizes. The next day he went to the Sheffield Open Show where he was Best of Breed and also won the variety Puppy Dog Class. 4 days later it was Crufts and here he won the Special Puppy Dog Class and was Best Puppy in the breed. At the West Torrington Show he was Best Puppy and Puppy Group 2. At the Collie Association Open Show in March he won another 2 First Prizes and he won the Junior Dog Class at the Smooth Collie Open Show. At the Yorks and Midlands Pastoral Show he won 2 more first prizes and was Puppy Group 2. He won another first Prize at the Lancashire & Cheshire Championship Show which qualified him for the Junior Warrant. Interestingly he beat Rio Grande to this award by 3 weeks. He was retired for several months after this show so that he could grow a new coat, but we took him to West of England Championship Show in September where he won the Special Yearling Dog Class and the London & Provincial Collie Club
Ch Show in November where he won the Graduate Dog Class. But it was in 2007 that he really started to come into his own. His litter sister Demelewis Jade Moon at Corydon became a Champion in Hong Kong during the early part of 2006. And his other sister that we kept Demelewis Moon Muffin with Corydon won 5 first prizes.
The year ended with a bang because the new bitch puppy Corydon Copperita won Best Puppy and Reserve Best of Breed at Sleaford Open Show and then won the Pastoral Puppy Group at her very first show. So the year was an excellent year for the Corydon Kennel.

2007 was an interesting year as we brought out a litter brother and sister who were to make quite an impact. These were Corydon Catch Me Driftin and his sister Corydon Mona Mia. The bitch only went to a few shows before we sent her to some friends in Finland. This caused quite stir because on her second day there, and this was November, she escaped and was not seen again for 2 weeks. Miranda even went over there to help catch, but it was not until 2 weeks later that she decided to share the food with another dog on a farm 40km away. Fortunately the farmer had heard about her and correctly assumed that this was indeed Mona so a very relieved party in Finland went to collect her. Amazingly, even though the nights were very cold she had not lost any condition and in fact won at her first show. So she was obviously finding subsidence somewhere. She quite quickly became a Finish Champion and then won her International Title. She now has quite a lot of Titles to her name. Her brother we kept and he caused quite a stir by winning Best in Show at the Smooth Collie Club Ch. show while he was still a puppy. Quite a story as well here because I had taken a lot of his coat out and was not planning to take him to this show. But we had bitches in season and he would not stop howling. I even brought him into my bedroom the night before the show, but he still howled all night, so I thought it better to take him to the show for the neighbors sake. However the judge was Patti Merrill who at the time was President of The Collie Club of America. After the show she said that Percy had the only correct type of head at this show. I might explain here that the Americans insist on clean cheeks. They will not accept under any circumstances Collies that have any sign of cheek bones. So they run their hands up the side of the head to make sure that the head is completely smooth along the sides. Having seen the Collies in America I think that they have a very valid point here. Because the head is clean they all seemed to have proper elegance, which is so sadly missing among the thick headed stocky fluffy coated dogs that seem to find favour with most of today’s judges. Sad really.
The rest of the year really belonged to another litter sister brother combination. These were Demelewis Dark Moon Driftin over Corydon and his tri sister Demelewis Muffin Moon With Corydon. She started the year very well by winning Best in Show at the East Anglian Collie Association Open Show in January. She won another Best of Breed award at Sheffield Open Show. But it was her tri brother who was to hit the headlines. He won the Special Yearling Dog Class at Crufts to follow on from his best puppy award the previous year. He then won Best in Show at the West of England Open Show in April, and he followed this by winning the Reserve CC at W.E.L.K.S and soon after another Reserve CC at the National. Both of these
were won under husband and wife Mr & Mrs P Bailey. He won another Reserve CC at Three Counties under Mr S Mallard, and then onto Blackpool where Viv Anderton awarded him his first CC and then Best of Breed. He won his second CC at The National Working & Pastoral Breeds under Tracy Wilkinson. And so he was retired until Crufts 2008 and much more about that next year.

2008 The year has started in great style as CH CORYDON RIO GRANDE was placed 1st in Open Dog Not Separately Classified Pastoral and was then placed Best of Breed in this Section at Boston Championship Show on the 4th January 2008. Judge Mr P Radley. On the way he beat several very big winners from other breeds in the Pastoral Group. Not to be completely overshadowed, CORYDON CATCH ME DRIFTIN won 1st prize in the Junior Dog Class of this section. The second show of the year saw our dog excel again. This was the East Anglian Collie Association Open Show. Judge Lene Newman (most will remember her as Lene Halvorsen) Anyway CORYDONCATCH ME DRIFTIN won the Junior Dog class, was made Best Dog and then Best Dog in Show and Reserve Best in Show. DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON won the Open Dog Class and CORYDON COPPERITA was placed second out of 13 in the Post Grad Bitch Class, the winner went on to Best in Show. CRUFTS 2008. What more can we say. What a SHOW. DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON wins the Open Dog Class and wins the Dog CC so he is now CH DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON He then wins Best of Breed and is Short Listed in the Group. The only one of the Collie Breeds to be so placed. CH CORYDON RIO GRANDE is placed 3rd in the Open Dog class. CORYDON CATCH ME DRIFTIN is placed 2nd in the Junior Dog Class and last but by no means least CORYDON COPPERITA is placed 1st in the Undergraduate Bitch Class. 4 exhibits taken and all placed in the first 3 in their classes. Including 1st and 3rd in the Open Dog Class. CH DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON follows his win at Crufts by winning the Dog CC and then Best in Show at Collie Club of Wales on the 20th April. CH DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON then went to WELKS on the 27th April and won the Dog CC and Best of Breed under Derek Smith. He was then short-listed in the Group under Ellis Hulme. CH DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON did it again, this time at Lancashire & Cheshire Collie Club Championship Show on the 4th May. under Peter Chave who awarded him the Dog CC and then Hugh Jones awarded him Best in Show. 4 Championship Shows, 4 CCs, and 4 Best of Breeds. We will give him a rest now. He has proved that he is the best. The next show was the Smooth Collie Club Open Show on 11th May. CORYDON D’ARK MARGARITA won the Puppy Bitch Class and then was awarded Best Puppy in Show. CORYDON CATCH ME DRIFTIN won his class and was awarded Best Rough Dog. CORYDON COPPERITA won the Open Bitch Class and was awarded Reserve Best Rough Bitch. The 1st June was Southern Counties Championship Show. CH DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON won the Open Dog Class and was Best of Breed. He also won the Special Open Stakes Class. CORYDON D’ARK MARGARITA was placed 2nd in a class of 15 Puppy bitches. 6th July was West of England Collie Society Ch Show. Dog Judge Mr B Hull. CH DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON won the Open Dog Class, was awarded the CC and then Best of Breed and eventually Best in Show under B.I.S. Judge Eira Moores. CORYDON CATCH ME DRIFTIN was placed 2nd in the Special Yearling dog Class, but he had lost most of his coat. 19th October – East Anglian Collie Association Open Show – Judge Mrs A Harvey.
CORYDON ONCE IN A BLUE MOON 2nd Minor Puppy Dog, 1st Puppy Dog. His first show. 24th October – Midland Counties Ch Show – Judge Mr E Hulme. The Reserve CCs were won by CH DEMELEWIS DARK MOON DRIFTIN OVER CORYDON, CORYDON COPPERITA, CORYDON FANCY ME and CORYDON ONCE IN A BLUE MOON
