A decade of consolidation. We made up six more Champions in the UK and many more Overseas.
We went to Australia and New Zealand twice for holiday and judging.
I judged in Russia, Finland, France, Estonia, Czech Republic and Norway.

1990 A great year in the show-ring that was dominated by CH CORYDON GOLD SPUR. He lost his coat at just 7 months of age, which was probably a very good thing for him to do. He came back into the ring at
12 months and came into full coat when normally he would be out ofcoat. Consequently he won 4 Challenge Certificates as a Junior. We thinkthat he is the only dog since the war to do this. He actually won his Junior Warrant when winning his 4th CC. The Certificate came back from the Kennel Club without his Champion Title being on it. On inquiry to the Kennel Club why the Champion Title was not included their reply was that the Certificates were now being printed by computer and the software was not able to put this title on as it had never happenedbefore.!!! Strangely, Mac as we called him then decided that showing was for idiots, so he never won again, but he sired some top winners.
Back to his wins. It all started at Collie Club of Wales under Ann Hutchinson. He won Junior Dog, The Dog Challenge Certificate, Best of Breed and then Best in Show. This was followed by a CC at the Scottish
Kennel Club and Best of Breed under Brenda Banbury. His third and qualifying CC was won at Blackpool under Stella Clark, with his 4th CC coming at Windsor under Trevor Haywood.
CH LOWERPARK MOONLIGHTER AT CORYDON was not to be completely overlooked as he won the CC and best of Breed at Manchester under Joyce Collis.
Then we had a Res CC won by CORYDON MOON MIRACLE at Working Breeds of Wales under Peter Turner. He also had a Best of Breed and Reserve Best in Show all Breeds at Sharrow Open Show.
CORYDON CARUSO had a rare outing and was Best of Breed atMansfield Open Show.
Our dogs won 25 1st prizes during 1990.
1991 This was a quiet year as we had a holiday and judging appointments in Australia and New Zealand. We had, as usual, a wonderful time. If you ever get the chance, go. The Blue Mountains are extraordinary.
And the scenery in New Zealand is just unbelievable.
Back to showing. This was the year of CORYDON MOON MIRACLE. He won 2 Challenge Certificates and one Res CC. The first big wincame at Southern Counties under Mrs A C Hutchinson who awarded
him the CC and Best of Breed. This was followed at Three Counties where Robin Searle awarded him the CC and Best of Breed. He was short listed in the group that day. His Res CC came at Midland
Counties under Joe Kirk.
The year was also memorable in that we introduced 4 bitch puppies from 3 litters that had been born within 2 weeks of each other. They were all to have a big impact on the CORYDON Kennel and Rough
Collies in general. These were CORYDON LA STUPENDA, CORYDON WHISPER WILLOW, and the blue merle litter sisters CORYDON SILVER MOON and CORYDON MOON GODDESS.
They all won first prizes during the year. La Stupenda was the most successful as she won Best Puppy in the Breed at Notts County Open Show (this always had a big Rough Collie entry.) and was then awarded Best Puppy at Bath Ch Show under Mr Bernini from Italy. Looking back on this win it is strange that his dog (a Pelido) should return to the UK and be mated to La Stupenda. A mating that produced Ch Corydon Il Supremo. But more of that in later pages.
Also this year we introduced AUS CH Moon Wizard At Corydon who gave us Ch. Corydon Blackcat before he went to Australia where he attained his Australian title
1992 A very quiet year as our dogs won just two awards of note. firstly Corydon La Stupenda won Best in Show at the Smooth Collie Club Open Show under Mrs M G Holmes then Corydon Moon Miracle won the Reserve CC at the National Show under Mr E Hulme. We did introduce to the showring a young dog puppy that we had bought in that was to become a Champion. This was Alssala Canny Bairn at Corydon.
1993 A year of mixed blessings. The dogs did quite well in the show-ring, but we lost the great Blue Merle dog CORYDON MOON MIRACLE. He caught a very rare virus which did dreadful things to his brain. Despite the best treatment that Cambridge University could give him he had to be put down. Very sad as he was only 4 years old and had won 2 Challenge Certificates. In my opinion he would have been one of the GREATS of the breed. Strangely, the day after he died we took CORYDON SILVER MOON to the Welsh kennel Club Show under Mr D Parry, who awarded her the Challenge Certificate and Best of Breed. (She found lasting fame as the dam of the breed record holder Ch Phreelancer Phrosty Moon Over Corydon) We said afterwards that this should really have gone to Moomin, especially as the judge said he was looking for him. Yet another taken from us before they could have the magic CHAMPION in front of their name. Interestingly, Moon Miracle and Silver Moon had a litter. A bitch puppy from this mating went to Australia. She was mated to AUS CH MOON WIZARD AT CORYDON. (who was also the sire of CH CORYDON BLACKCAT who was born in 1993). A bitch from this litter won Best in Show at the Australian National Collie Club Show.
However, the dogs did have some success during the year. CORYDON WHISPER WILLOW won the CC at the Scottish Kennel Club show under Gwen Beaden. She also won the Res CC at Southern Counties under Terry Taylor. At the same show CH LOWERPARK MOONLIGHTER AT CORYDON won the Res Dog CC. A bit of an unwanted double really. ALSSALA CANNY BAIRN AT CORYDON started to make his mark. He won Reserve Best in Show at Doncaster all breeds Open Show, Best of Breed at Sheffield Open Show, Best of Breed at Eastwood Open Show. Then Reserve Best in Show at the Smooth Collie Club Ch. Show under Mrs L Cartledge. And then won the Res CC at Northumberland and Durham Ch Show under Mrs L Robinson. Not to be totally overshadowed CORYDON LA STUPENDA won Best in Show at the Midland Collie Club Open Show under Miss B French. We also showed a few who were to make their mark in the future. These were Corydon Beam Me Up (pet name Scotty for obvious reasons) who went to Denmark and became a famous International Champion. Corydon Rule Britannia who became a New Zealand Champion. And not forgetting Ch. Corydon Blackcat started his show career this year.
1994 This was a very good year for our show dogs. It started very well as CORYDON LA STUPENDA won Best in Show at the London Collie Club Open Show in January under Mr T Kemp. Then ALSSALA CANNY BAIRN AT CORYDON won the Reserve Challenge Certificate at Scottish Breeds under Mr W Tuke. At this same show CORYDON SUDDEN IMPACT won Best Puppy in Breed and also won the Puppy Stakes Class under Mrs B Lawson Whyte which meant that he qualified for the Dog World Beta Pup of the Year Finals in London.CORYDON BLACKCAT won Best in Show at The Collie Association Open Show under Derek Field, and then was Best of Breed under Mrs P Cross- Stern at the Newark and Notts Ag Soc Open Show. Always had a big entry here. ALSSALA CANNY BAIRN AT CORYDON won his first CC at The National Show under Mr A Broadhead, and then CORYDON MOON GODDESS won the CC and Best of Breed under Mrs L Craven at the SKC August Show. Then she won the CC at Paignton Show under Dr B Raven. While ALSSALA CANNY BAIRN AT CORYDON won the Res CC at Windsor under Mr D Samuel. Then at the last show of the year West of England Collie Society Ch Show CORYDON LA STUPENDA won the CC and Best in Show.
So ended a very good year for the show dogs in the kennel. Our dogs won 38 first prizes, 4 CCs, 2res CCs, 7 B.O.B and 4 Best in Show awards
The main litter of the year was from CORYDON MOON GODDESS who was mated to CH CORYDON BLACKCAT and produced eleven puppies. All survived and required no help at all from us. This litter produced some very big winners including CH CORYDON KITTYCAT who was top Collie in the UK for 1996. SA CH CORYDON ARISTOCAT (tri dog) and AUS CH CORYDON PROSPERINA. (Blue Merle bitch) Interestingly, there were 5 Tricolour bitches in the litter. But Moon Goddess was to die just 12 months later from another disgraceful example of gross veterinary negligence. She was yet another of ours who died before winning that 3rd and qualifying CC.
1995 This was a very good year, but tinged with sadness.
It started off in spectacular fashion when CORYDON LA STUPENDA won the CC, Best of Breed and then Best in Show at the Midland Collie Club Championship Show under Rene Cozens. This being the first Championship Show of the year. So she won at the last show in 1994 and the 1st in 1995.
This was followed shortly after when her son CORYDON BLACKCAT won the CC at Northumberland and Durham Collie Club Championship Show under Mr R Oliver. Then they both won the Res CC under Kath Jeffries at the National Show. Then to Bath Championship Show where ALSSALA CANNY BAIRN AT
CORYDON won his second CC and Best of Breed under Miss J Lanning. This was followed by Windsor Championship Show where we introduced CORYDON KITTYCAT to the world. Mrs R Makepeace awarded her Best Puppy in the breed.
We then had 5 weeks of holiday in Australia and New Zealand, where we judged and had fun. I can understand why young people from this country want to emigrate to these countries. The weather is wonderful and everybody is so friendly. The dog show scene is not so good though.
After we came back we took CORYDON MOON GODDESS to the Scottish Kennel Club August Show under Mr R Vourinen from Finland who awarded her the Res CC. Shortly after this she developed pyometra and our very useless vet was unable to save her. This was especially cruel as just a year before she had produced 11 puppies and had reared them all without any help from us.
The year ended on a happier note when CORYDON SUDDEN IMPACT won his first CC at the London and Provincial Collie Club under Mr E Van Den Broek.
So the year ended with our dogs winning 4 CCs, 3 Res CCs, 6 Best of Breeds and 25 First prizes.
1996 What a year. We ended up with 10 Challenge Certificates, 3 Reserve Challenge Certificates. TOP Kennel and TOP Dog. And 3 New Champions. We started off well by winning 4 First Prizes at London Collie Club Open Show under Mr S Hall. Then CORYDON LA STUPENDA won the Res CC at The Midland Collie Club under Mrs V Geddes. CORYDON BLACKCAT won the Open Dog Class at The British Collie Club and the Limit Dog Class at Crufts. This was quickly followed by W.E.L.K.S Championship Show where CORYDON LA STUPENDA won the Bitch CC and Best of Breed under Mrs I Moores. So becoming CH CORYDON LA STUPENDA. Then within 2 weeks CORYDON BLACKCAT won the Res CC under Brian Hawkins at the National Show and he then awarded his daughter CORYDON KITTYCAT the CC and Best of Breed. Then to Bath Championship Show where Harry Jordan awarded ALSSALA CANNY BAIRN AT CORYDON the CC, so he became CH ALSSALA CANNYBAIRN AT CORYDON. Next to Paignton Championship Show with Hazel Hunt judging. CORYDON KITTYCAT won the CC and Best of Breed.
Then to Windsor Championship Show with Mrs M Spavin judging the breed. It started with CORYDON WILL SCARLET winning the Puppy Dog Class. CORYDON SUDDEN IMPACT won the Open Dog Class and was awarded the Dog CC and Best of Breed. CORYDON KITTYCAT won the Limit Bitch Class and was awarded the Res CC. CORYDON GOLD DEMELZA won the Open Bitch Class and was awarded the Bitch CC. So we ended the day with Dog CC and Best of Breed, The Bitch CC, Res Bitch CC and Best Puppy Dog. A wonderful day. CORYDON KITTYCAT went on to win her classes at South Wales, National Working and Pastoral Breeds and Leeds Ch Show. Bournemouth Ch Show had Stella Clark judging and she awarded the Bitch CC to CORYDON KITTYCAT. So she then became CH CORYDON KITTYCAT. At the same show CORYDON BLACKCAT won the Reserve Dog CC. Next stop was the Welsh Kennel Club Show under Lisa Burtenshaw. Here CORYDON BLACKCAT again won the Reserve Dog CC, but CH CORYDON KITTYCAT won the Bitch CC and Best of Breed. So making her the Top Winning Rough Collie for 1996.
And still we had not finished winning this year, because we had Mrs Z Thorn Andrews judging the breed at Midland Counties where she awarded the Dog CC and Best of Breed to CORYDON CAYOSS now owned by the Misses Flint, and the Bitch CC to CORYDON GOLD DEMELZA. Giving us the double again.
Twice in one year is greedy!!!!!!!
1997 This was an interesting year. Not quite the success of the previous year, but we did make up another Champion, won 4 Challenge Certificates, 4 Reserve Challenge Certificates and had a Best in Show win.
It all started well, because CORYDON WILL SCARLET won Best Opposite Sex in Show at the East Anglian Collie Association Open Show under John Geddes, then CH CORYDON KITTYCAT won the Reserve CC at the Midland Collie Club Ch Show under Peter Chave. She then went to Crufts and won the Open Bitch Class under Hugh Jones who also awarded a first prize to CORYDON DEMI SEQUE. And CORYDON WILL SCARLET won a class at this show under Shirley Toothill. Then a big event, PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON went to his first show, which was at Northumberland and Durham
Championship Show under Mr J Tait. He was placed Reserve in the Minor Puppy Dog Class. He was not to get such a low placing very often over the next 10 years or so. In fact he won Best of Breed at the Notts County Show just 6 weeks later. And the day after that CORYDON WILL SCARLET won the Challenge
Certificate at the Lancashire and Cheshire Collie Club Championship Show under Mrs A Arch who also awarded CORYDON BLACKCAT the Reserve CC. Then to Bath Championship Show where CORYDON BLACKCAT won his second Dog CC and Best of Breed, under Alan Jeffries. We then had a long rest during the summer months as coats were dropped. Then to Ayrshire Collie club in October where CORYDON BLACKCAT won the CC and Best in Show. So he became CH CORYDON BLACKCAT. Then, just 2 weeks later he went to Midland Counties Championship Show under Derek Smith who awarded him his 4th CC. The year ended on a high when Brenda Banbury awarded first prize in the Junior Dog class to PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON and then went on to award him the Reserve CC.
1998 What a year. Easily the most successful to date. By the end of the year our dogs had won 10 CCs. 3 Reserve CCs. 4 Best in Show awards. 1 Reserve Best in Show. And 15 Best of Breed wins. And on top of this Barbara judged the Bitches at Crufts. Frosty (PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON) started it all by winning the Best of Breed award at Peterborough Open Show under Tracy Jackson. He followed this by winning Best of Breed at Cambridge City Open Show and then to Wath West Melton Open Show where not only did he win Best of Breed under Mrs P Clayton, but she liked him enough to award him Best in Show all Breeds. Miss D Moores awarded Best of Breed at Newark Open Show and then Mr B Skyrme made him Best Dog at London and Provincial Collie Club where he then went on to win Best in Show. His next big win was at The National Show under Ros Cartwright who awarded him his first CC and then Best of Breed. He went on to win the CC at his next 7 Championship Shows. We think that this is a record for the breed. These were at the Scottish Kennel Club under Brian Hawkins where he was Best of Breed. London Collie Club under Mr R Baker. Where he became CH PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON. Border Union under Mr A Wight, another Best of Breed and Group 4 under Mrs Z Thorn-Andrews. South Wales under Marion Clarke also Best of Breed. National Working and Pastoral Breeds under Mary Farnes also Best of Breed and Group 4 under Mrs M Egerton. East Anglian Collie Association under Pat Lister where he went on to Best in Show. And finally the Welsh Kennel Club under Kath Jeffries who once again awarded him Best of Breed. He missed out at Darlington where he decided that showing was for fools, but he came back at Midland Counties under Mrs P Cross-Stern who awarded him his 9th CC. But before all this excitement CH CORYDON KITTYCAT won the CC and Best of Breed at Scottish Breeds under Mr R Anderton. Frosty won the Reserve Dog CC at this show. CORYDON IL SUPREMO won the Reserve Dog CC from the Junior Dog Class under Joyce Collis ( who was to award him a Group 1 a few years later). His sister CORYDON LA SOGNORA was not going to be left out and she won the Best in Show award at the Collie Association Open Show under John Geddes.
Altogether our dogs won 37 first prizes during 1998. I have to say that we had a lot of fun that year.
1999 A quieter year than the hectic 1998, but our dogs still won 6 CCs. Once again it was Frosty who led the way with CC and Best of Breed at WELKS, under Mrs J White and he then went on to Group 3 under Mr R Vieroun. This was Mid April and we had not won anything of note before this year. However it had now begun and Primo (CORYDON IL SUPREMO) had one of our biggest wins when he went to the Hitchin 2 day Open Show. First he was Best of Breed under Mr F Cosme, then he won Group 1 under Mrs J Collis and then onto Best in Show under Mrs M Spavin. A very good win as there were over 1,000 dogs entered. He then went to the Scottish Kennel Club CH Show under Mrs A Arch who awarded him his first CC.
Frosty then went to Windsor Ch Show where Mr B House awarded him the Dog CC, and then to East of England where he won Best of Breed under Mrs J Bedford. He won his 3rd CC of the year and 12th in all at East Anglian Collie Association CH Show under Mrs N Lister. Where he went on to Best in Show.
And just 3 weeks later we did the double. This was at the Scottish Kennel Clubs August Ch Show. CORYDON LA PHINICIA won the Bitch CC and Best of Breed. CORYDON IL SUPREMO won the Dog CC. The judge was Mr A Broadhead. Primo was not finished yet as his next show was the Smooth Collie Club CH Show with Mr A Brace judging. He awarded Primo Best Dog, Best of Breed and then, Best in Show over the Top Winning Smooth Collie. And then onto the East Anglian Collie Association Open Show under Mr John Walsh Junior who awarded him Best in Show. His last show of the year was the London and Provincial Collie Club Ch Show where Mrs J Collis awarded him the Reserve Dog CC.
