Sire Ch Ramsey of Rokeby
Dam Ch Corydon Qui Vive.
His Challenge Certificate wins were as follows:
12/5/9173 Bath - Judge Mr F Mitchell
11/9/1974 Bournemouth - Judge Mrs T Taylor
18/9/1976 National Working - Judge Mr L Casely
He did not win any Reserve Challenge Certificates.
He was the sire of CH CORYDON HANDSOME HERO, CH LITTLE CAESAR AT CORYDON and CH DAMERAL ARISTEDES. Plus the CC Winners DAMERAL TAWNEY TOBIAS and CORYDON BOUQUET IN BLUE.
He was our first Challenge Certificate winner and first male Champion. And our first really good male Collie. His first and indeed our first Challenge Certificate was memorable for two reasons. Firstly he won from a lower Class, Graduate Dog, and secondly because the judge awarded the Bitch Reserve CC to an exhibit that had departed the show before his decision. I suspect the judge got into a bit of a trouble over that.
I also remember a show when he was a puppy. As was normal in those days the entry was big. The judge who was doing his first stint at a Champ Show placed the dogs in the wrong order. My dog was standing in fifth when Margaret Franklin whose exhibit was standing in fourth place turned to me and said that she thought we should be first and second. At that the Steward started to hand out the first prize to the exhibitor standing in first place when the judge turned to him and said that my dog was First. That judge has gone on to judge Best in Show at Crufts. I suppose he was nervous as this was his first class at the show.
He went to Australia shortly after winning his title. He was sold on the understanding he was not to be shown. However he did sire a large number of Champions in his new country.
Leo as we called him did not like dog shows once he had got over his puppy career. But we had some memorable shows with him .One of these was when he won his second CC. I took him together with his dam and Polly. When I got to the show I found that there were only 2 benches for my three dogs. The show secretary suggested that I put 2 on one bench. So at the end of the day the bench had Leo’s CC and his dams Reserve CC placed on the back. I have to think that this was the only time that this has ever happened at any show with any breed.
His last CC was memorable because I told him that this was the last show he was ever going to as he really did not like the experience. I had entered him in the Open Dog Class which he won. So I told him that when we went into the Challenge for the CC this was definitely the last time to go into the ring. But he won the CC so he then had to challenge the bitch for Best of Breed. As we were against the years top winner I was fairly confident that this was definitely the last time. But the judge awarded him Best of Breed so we had to go into the Best in Show ring, And this judge awarded him Best in Show 3. So he finished with a big bang.
