The year started with a really lovely win when CH CORYDON BLACKCAT won the Veteran Dog class under Mrs A Arch and then went on to win the Dog CC and then Best in Show under Mrs E Westwood. He was almost 8 years old on the day. This was his last show as I thought that he should go out at the TOP.
Then we had Foot and Mouth in the Country and that stopped all shows for 3 months. Crufts Dog Show was put back from March to May, but it did not stop CH PHREELANCER PHROSTY MOON OVER CORYDON from winning the Dog CC under Hazel Hunt and Best of Breed under both judges agreement, and then going on to be shortlisted in the Group. During the year he won 7 Challenge Certificates, 6 with Best of Breed. These were at SKC under Mr McManus, Crufts, Southern Counties under Mr S Wilburg, Three Counties under Mrs J Whant, Richmond under Mr D Allsop, Darlington under Mr J Bispham and Midland Counties under Miss S Concar.
CH CORYDON IL SUPREMO thought that he should get his name in print, so he went to Driffield Championship Show, won Best of Breed under Mr R F Parkes, and then won the Group under Mrs J Collis. He was the first male Rough Collie to win a Group since CH CORYDON HANDSOME HERO won the Group at Eastern Counties in 1978.
Finally, at the end of the year CORYDON PRIMA DONNA won the Reserve Bitch CC under Mrs A Arch at London & Provincial Collie Club.
Earlier in the year we introduced CORYDON SUPER CHIEF, he had some very good wins in the Puppy Classes, but he was to have his show career cut short by getting testicular cancer. A great pity as he was a rather handsome dog who would have gone far.
Due to the foot & Mouth problem we only went to about half the shows we would normally have gone to, but our dogs ended the year with 16 First Prizes, 9 Best of Breed, 8 Challenge Certificates, 1 Reserve Challenge Certificate, 1 Best in Show and ! Championship Show Group win.
